 About Avery

Avery Gunnell leads a versatile career as a soloist and collaborator for individual artists and groups. In her solo career, she has taken first place prizes in the USU Piano Festival and the Salt Lake Piano Competition, taken  2nd place in the Sandy MTA Distinguished Artists Competition, and has competed in the Utah MTNA competition.  In September of 2017 and September of 2019 she soloed with the Utah Symphony in their annual Salute to Youth concert. In February of 2020 she competed and won the chance to solo with the BYU Symphony Orchestra in their annual concerto competition.

 

When she is not gracing the stage as a soloist performing at venues such as Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, the Villa de Medici in Briosco, Italy, the Harris Fine Arts Center and the new Concert Hall at Brigham Young University, she accompanies distinguished artists such as BYU Women’s Chorus and Concert Choir.  In her career as a collaborative pianist, she has performed at venues such as the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City, concert halls around the Salt Lake valley, and will perform with the BYU Women’s Chorus in Germany and Switzerland in the summer of 2024.

Avery was a student of Bridget Johansen and the late Gary Amano. She is now enrolled full-time at BYU and is a candidate for a BM in Piano Performance studying with Stephen Beus.
